Buying a new home is so nice. You don’t have to repaint, re-do, or do any major changes. However, there is one thing we had to do, the yard.
So recently, we finally had our backyard landscaped. So glad we did!! I think half of the dirt in the backyard was being brought in the house by the dogs. Now that the yard is done, I’m trying to make things more cozy on the patio. We love spending time in the yard.
I started with a little potting bench that I purchased from Amazon about a year ago. While there wasn’t anything wrong with it, I felt like it needed a facelift.
I started with spray painting the whole thing white. A little tip, this was cedar, and it soaks up a ton of paint. This was two cans of Rustoleum White in Satin. You can see, it needed more. I ended up using a brush and white craft paint over the top, and that did the trick.
While that looked better, it still needed more. I had purchased an adorable garden sign from a friend’s Etsy shop.
This was my inspiration! I went to the hardware store and purchased fence pickets. Inexpensive, and they are going to add a lot.
I painted the pickets, again with Rustoleum spray paint in Satin White.
Then, I used wood screws and attached the pickets to the back of the bench. I screwed them in at the top and the bottom so they would be very secure.
Just space them how you think they will look best. I chose to add a little spacing in between. I also decided just to add them to the center of the bench, and you could go all the way across. Here’s the finished result!! Love it! Such a statement piece for our patio, and it’s functional.
Hope you enjoyed this little DIY and that you’ll give it a try yourself! Have a great day!
