I mentioned in my previous blog post that we had sold our last home and moved into our first new build. Our last home was perfect for our stage of life. We had four bedrooms that were all separate from each other, so everyone had lots of privacy. It was great for older children living at home. Then, just like that, they were all three gone.
Our Last Home
Our New Empty Nest Home
I was so excited to see them going out into the world and making their own lives. It warmed my heart. But, there we were in this big house, just the two of us. We made the choice to downsize. Still having four bedrooms for all of the boys to have a place when they want to come visit. I made the decision not to have formal areas. Just one cozy living area with room for us all, and one dining area big enough for all of us and more. So, we went from 2900 sq ft to 2100. Do I miss those 800 square feet?? Not one bit! This house is an open concept with high ceilings and feels cozy. For the first time, ever, I decorated the Master bedroom first.
(I’ve always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom and I got one finally!) I will be sharing the makeover for that bench in a post soon!
In this house, I am finding myself wanting things lighter and brighter. We don’t have as many windows, and the cabinets and trim are all white, So, lighter and brighter seems to fit the house better. You will have to follow along, and see how I am changing my style and decor for this house.
Being an Empty Nester is an adjustment for sure. But, we decided for the first time in 24 years, we were doing something just for the two of us. Our boys were all so happy for us and helped us with our move. Now to enjoy getting settled and watching our boys grow into wonderful young adults.
Thanks for stopping by!
